Ferhadija & the Austro-Hungarian centre
Where East meets West on a single paving line — Vienna-style façades, the Cathedral and the city's main promenade.
Walk west from the bazaar and the low wooden shops give way to stucco façades, wrought-iron balconies and wide pavements. A line on Ferhadija street — "Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures" — marks the exact point where Ottoman Sarajevo ends and the Austro-Hungarian city (built after 1878) begins. Around it you'll find the Sacred Heart Cathedral, the Eternal Flame, the city's best bookshops and many of its café terraces.
